Christmas 2003
Julianne is in seventh grade having just made the high honor roll for the first trimester. She continues to exceed in playing the flute and for the first time marched in the 4th of July, Homecoming and Christmas parades. Her best friends are great kids, and four of them have remained good friends since being in third grade together when Julianne first came to the U.S. Julianne loves music and art and took clogging lessons early in the year and is currently taking art classes at the Moonstone Gallery in Lake Geneva. I am forever thankful for who Julianne is. She is a serious & intelligent student, loyal and caring to her family and friends, levelheaded, responsible, fun loving and always a huge help to me at home, including being quite accomplished in cooking meals. Two of Juliannešs favorite things, which I failed to mention, are watching TV and sleeping! What a chore it is to wake her up on school days! On Dec. 5th we had seven of Julianne's friends overnight for her "slumber" 14th birthday party. I felt like I had a hang over the next day!

Happy New Year!
We send you all our best wishes for 2004 and we hope you had a wonderful year and a special holiday season. Here is a quick snapshot of our family this past year.
We had some great times as a family this year, including many fun gatherings and parties with family and friends. Vacations included spring break divided between the Great Wolf Lodge in the Dells and Door County, a trip in early May to Florida where we visited friends and a week in August back in Door County. Our plans are to spend New Years Eve and the first few days of 2004 in Door County as well. Some of our "best" times were spent swimming off our old pontoon boat on Lauderdale Lakes with friends. We enjoyed wonderful summer days throwing our anchor out near Pebble Beach and just swimming, playing, sunning and eating those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer away. Of course all of us have enjoyed spoiling our sweet dog Charlie this past year. ...

Peter is in fifth grade and doing very well academically. He thinks band is awesome and plays the trumpet quite well. On the other hand, he knows exactly what the vice principal's office looks like, having been there more then a few times! Peter is an exceptional athlete and has had a great year in sports. He was a key defensive player in his "Y" basketball team last spring and will be participating in a traveling basketball team and a "Y" basketball team starting in January. Since basketball is his favorite and most important sport, he was treated to a special basketball camp this past summer at the U-Whitewater. Peter also played "Y" baseball this summer and wants to play soccer and football in 2004. Peter has progressed wonderfully since being adopted last March and I am proud of his talents and development. Peter is bright, very social, and inquisitive and often surprises me with his thoughtful comments. Peter often listens to his CD while playing his game boy and whistling and talking at the same time. no problem multi-tasking for him. Of course the year has not been perfect and Peter has provided plenty of opportunities for me to exercise my "voice".
Robynanne is thriving in second grade and comes home happy discussing what she learned that day and singing and acting out some of the playful songs she learns in music class. She has become quite an accomplished reader, reading well beyond her second grade level. Robynanne is an especially caring, generous and loving child and is always concerned about everyone's welfare and often makes cards and presents for her teacher, friends and of course, her family. Robynanne's main extra activity continues to be gymnastics, going to classes three times a week for a total of 6 and one-half hours a week in the gym. In October, November and December we traveled throughout SE WI to various competitions. Robynanne qualified for state in level 4 and in December she brought home a metal as she tied for 14th in the floor exercise out of 55 eight year olds who qualified for state. We were all proud of her accomplishment. Robynanne also takes art classes and is interested in starting piano in 2004. Robynanne adores babies and little children and loves to visit our friends and help take care of their three year old twins. Robynanne is smart, loving, athletic, artistic and musical. My biggest fear for Robynanne is that her impersonations of rock stars are entirely too realistic!
My time in 2003 has been mostly divided between family and work, but I continually strive to take some time for myself. I devote a great deal of time to my children and our family activities. Julianne, Peter and Robynanne are the joys of my life and I love being a part of their development as special young people. My job as Community Development Manager at We Energies is rewarding and challenging. I'm energized by the work I do, especially these past few years as I have been concentrating on helping build the "soft infrastructure' for Wisconsin to succeed in the Tech-Knowledge Economy. I have many good friends and business associates, many of them outside of the company in the public and private sectors, that I truly enjoy working with on a regular basis. My work schedule is a savior, as I work four nine hour days and have Fridays off, thus taking reduced pay to gain more "survival' time. When I am successful at making time for myself, I swim laps at the Grand Geneva Spa, visit with friends or family, garden or escape by reading a great fiction book.
My mother and brothers are doing quite well. My mom, who is 86 now, and my older brother Kip live together in Fontana in their wonderful home. Kip now does all the grocery shopping and cooking, but mom does her part with the dishes. They live a quiet, but comfortable life and we try to see them as often as possible. My younger brother Gary still runs his successful restaurant, the Summer Kitchen, in Ephriam in Door County and enjoys his lovely home on 25 acres with horses, donkeys, a cat and his yellow lab. Part of the reason we love Door County is we also spend time with "Uncle Gary".
And so, there you have it ... another wonderful, yet hectic year gone by, quite impossible to capture in a letter.
We hope you will be part of our lives in 2004. Julianne, Peter, Robynanne and I send you all our love.
