      Maps are helpful, but not needed, on the AT. White blazes (about every 100-200 yards) mark the way. Double white blazes mean "change ahead." Blue blazes are used on side trails to shelters, water sources, etc. No blazes for awhile mean you may have taken a wrong turn!
