Nevada RV Ramble

Central Nevada and the Loneliest Road in America
We temporarily disconnected or trailer again next to this old RV parked at a lonesome tavern along the road. From there we made a three hour side trip to Great Basin National Park and where we went up the 13,068 ft. Wheeler Peak as far as we could drive.
The temperature was headed down into the 20's so we did not open up our trailer's tent-like sleeping areas this night, but stayed inside the insulated walls instead where it is a bit warmer. The was at Charcoal Ovens State Historical Park where we again were the only people there.
In the morning we took a hike to see what the charcoal ovens were all about
This is Ely, Nevada, a booming town of 4,000 in the middle of nowhere
Hannelore was excited to see some snow, but it turned out to be a salt flat
Finding no established campgrounds, we just pulled off the road far enough to be out of sight for the night
This wild place was totally unexpected. Sand Mountain is a huge sand dune near enough to Reno to draw lots of weekend visitors
Near Sand Mountain are the remains of an old Pony Express station
Our last stop was up in the mountains on the east side of Lake Tahoe at a trailhead for the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail that Ray hopes to backpack some day
