Ready to roll at San Francisco airport with all 37 pounds (17 kg) of our gear, including both carried and worn items.
Our trip was nearly delayed by the volcano eruption in Iceland and then we ended up flying right over Iceland!
We spent two nights in a small town near the Frankfurt airport, adjusting to the 9-hour time change.
We had a new iPad with us and were pleased to discover that it was just the right size to use to bring two cups of coffee up to our room, leaving one hand free to operate the elevator and room key!
On the second day, we took a train into downtown Frankfurt to see the sights.

We can learn about recycling from the Germans. Here white, brown, and green wine bottles are "separated at source."
