Stage 11: Northern Italy, Eastern Switzerland and nearby areas

Switching from public transportation to a rental car, we set off for the final week of our trip to visit many (too many to cover in total here) provinces and cantons of Italy and Switzerland we had not yet visited over the years.

First up was Trentino Alto Adige, Italy.

Crossing into Switzerland near Lake Como, we the popped in to see Campione d'Italia, a small Italian enclave located totally within Switzerland.

Haneelore with one foot in Italy and the other foot Switzerland.

We then went back into Switzerland and up into the mountains where we re-entered Italy to spend the night at this wonderful inn ...

... where we were fortunate to meet and enjoy the hospitality this lovely couple who have built it up from a humble farm over the past several decades.

Back into Switzerland in the morning through this mountain border crossing.

A quick stop in Lichtenstein.

Hannelore in Appenzell Ausserrhoden canton.

Mirroring Campione d'Italia in the south, Buesingen in the north is a small German enclave totally within Switzerland.

Stage 12: Western Switzerland and some French Provinces

After spending thenight in Basel, Switzerland, we had a wonderful reunion with Michael and Evelyn, world travelers we had met in Utah during our 2005-6 RV trip around North America.

We then stopped in the province of Alsace, France, and continued on through several cantons in western Switzerland.

While on a back road in one canton, we had a brief encounter with the Swiss Army.

A stop in the province of Franche-Comte, France.

Visiting some of the many buildings within the huge United Nations campus in Geneva, Switzerland.
