Eastern Europe
After two days of rest in Frankfurt, we took an evening flight to Stockholm, the capitol of Sweden, where the main part of our trip began.
The next morning we toured the central area and Old Town of Stockholm, braving cold, wet and windy weather.
About noon, we took a two hour bus ride from downtown Stockholm to the coast to catch a ferry.
The ferry ride to the Aland Islands (a group of over 6,000 islands which are a sovereign nation with close ties to Finland) was about two hours.
While on board we met Catrin. She lives in Sweden and was on her way to Aland to visit her parents for a few days. She was a great source of local information.
After coming ashore, we took another bus ride through the countryside for about 45 minutes to get to Mariehamn, the capitol of Aland.
