The next morning we took a train to the town of Szeged, in southern Hungary ...
A nice lady who spoke some English helped us find and hire this taxi driver to take us about 30 miles to the east to make a brief visit to Romania.
We then returned to Szeged only to find it was a holiday and there were few buses available to take us across the border to Serbia. We had to wait more than five hours! We spent our time in the bus station trying to pronounce the names of some of the towns in the area ... ;-)
Border crossings can eat up alot of time. Fortunately, we were headed in the right direction when we finally got to the Serbian border.
We finally arrived in Belgrade, the capitol of Serbia, about midnight, and had to take the first hotel we came to. Walking in that late with no reservation made it the most expensive room of our trip, but it was worth it, in part because the price included excellent internet service and also because they offered a wonderful buffet breakfast.
