Eastern Europe
The next morning we continued to tour Mariehamn ...
... and came across this old ship not far from where our next ferry was departing.
Then we got on board another ferry and were off to Turku, Finland, passing amongst 100's of islands.
We spent the night in Turku and walked to the train station the next morning, encountering these adorable school children getting ready for an outing.
Then it was off to Helsinki where we spent several hours visiting the highlights ...
A special treat was a short ferry boat ride over to Suomenlinna, an old fort in the bay which is a Unesco World Hertigage site, the first of about eight such sites we were able to visit during our trip.
We also saw two great cathedrals ...
We then ambled over to catch our ferry boat, only to discover that we were at the WRONG HARBOR!
A mad dash by taxi to the OTHER HARBOR, got us on the right ferry with just minutes to spare!
And, so, with Scandinavia fading in the background, we are off to the Baltic states ...
